3D music video

Task

Create an animated music video to the song "Dunes" by Alabama Shakes

Process

The song speaks about the losing of the mind and memories. I decided to explore the way light can show how empty or full a space is, and how architecture has parallels with music.

I modeled, textured and lit the 3D environment in Maya, rendered in Arnold. The curtain was a cloth simulation and the sand was a textured ocean shader.

Result

An abstract desert with slow zooming shots cuts to a high energy curtain flailing in the wind. I felt like the overlay of waves throughout the scene would add consistency, and further the illusion of heat.
